Business-Class hotspots are complicated because they can require
a combination of open and closed access. By installing a hotspot, you have chosen
to broadcast the network’s availablity for public use, however, the challenge
is in eliminating non-customers from gaining access. Even if you decide to differentiate
yourself by offering Internet access for free, you must have the ability to preserve
precious bandwidth and remove malicious users by carefully allocating the access.
Our partner Single Digits has solved this complex issue for
our customers by using personalized network authentication. Once connected to
your network, all users are Web-redirected to your Customer
Access Portal (CAP)where they are halted for authentication. To continue further and use your service,
they are required to enter a valid user name and password.
Once a valid user name and password is entered, the wireless
gateway sends the credentials over an encrypted tunnel to the Network Operations
Center (NOC). The credentials are verified and authorization is assigned to the
user. If the authentication fails, they will be redirected back to the portal
page where they can re-enter their user name and password. All user and connection
data can be viewed by the business owner through the Business
Access Portal (BAP).
Once a user has been authenticated, they are permitted to use
VPN protocols such as PPTP and IPSEC, which create private encrypted tunnels
to their desired resources such as corporate networks.
In addition, our software can deny access for client to client
communication, eliminating security threats that can impact the performance of
your network.
